“You are a part of society. Born in society, growing up in society, living in society, man ends his life in society. An individual can find fulfilment only in society. What is society? Society is your own reflection. The challenges that are present in society are the result of the challenges within the individuals who constitute it. Similarly, the ills in a society affect the individual. Therefore, do not distance yourself from society. Keep yourself always engaged in the service of society.

Society may also be compared to a four-wheeled chariot. The four wheels are: Aikamathyam (Unity), Swadheenam (Control or Regulation), Jnanam (Knowledge or Awareness) and Shakti (Power or Strength). These four help the society to go forward. A society without values will cease to be human. The more human values are cherished, the better will be the growth of society, the nation and the world.

As part of Sociocare activities, SSSCT UK supports activities and projects aligned with:

  1. Education in Human Values- such as Human Value Courses, Walk with Values, Human Values Concerts, Interfaith programmes etc. in countries such as UK, Haiti, etc;
  2. Poverty alleviation- such as Food & Nutrition Grants to food banks in UK, school children and others in Malawi, Nepal, Zambia, Sri Lanka, India etc;
  3. Emergency Relief- essential supplies of food, shelter, clothing and medicine to those affected by natural disasters such as floods in India, Indonesia, Balkans etc.; tsunami in Sri Lanka; earthquakes in India, Nepal and Haiti; cyclones and typhoons in Philippines, Fiji, etc.
  4. Community partnership projects with well known local and national charities in UK such as Crisis UK, Refuge UK, RSPCA, etc.

Food Bank

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected many people in myriad ways, including employment and financial difficulties for hardworking families. Many are struggling to afford even basic necessities, and are having to access food banks up and down the country.

Human Values Day

A ‘Walk with Values’ kicked off the day at Jubilee Square followed by a Human Values Concert in the City Centre with Dana Gillespie and a local gospel choir performance.
